Tiger

Welcome to the Tiger Den Program

First Grade or 6-7 years old

Den Leader  Flynn Lew

Our Goals A family, home, and community centered program that encourages ethical decision-making skills.

Summary   The boys participate with their adult partners. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding.

Tigers is an exciting introduction to the scouting program for first grade boys (or 7 years old) excited to get going! Tigers do stuff - lots of stuff - with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as Tigers.

This first year in Scouting requires that an adult partner participate with Tigers in all den meetings and activities.

The Tiger works toward earning his Bobcat rank and then his Tiger Rank badge with his den or family. Each Tiger must complete six core Tiger adventures and one of the thirteen Tiger elective adventures to receive his Tiger Rank badge. After completing an adventure each Cub Scout will receive an immediate recognition award in the form of a adventure loop that he can wear on his belt. Adventure loops are color coded and specific to each Scouting year. Tiger year adventure loops have orange edges.

After he has earned the Tiger badge, a Tiger Scout can work on the remaining 12 Tiger electives until he finishes first grade (or turn 8 years old). He can choose elective adventures that may show him new hobbies and teach him skills that will be useful during his Boy Scout years. When he completes an elective adventure, he receives an additional adventure loop to wear on his belt.

The Tiger Trail (getting started)

To earn the rank of Tiger Cub, you will need to purchase your scout a Tiger Handbook to begin working on the Tiger Trail.

NoteSome of these activities are done at home and signed off by the parent after the boy has completed the task. The handbook should be shown to the Den Leader - who records and tracks his progress.

NoteThere are no performance requirements for completing tasks. Simply participating and doing one's best in an activity constitutes completion.

Note: Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat... Once he earns his Bobcat Badge he can skip it in other handbooks as he advance through the ranks.

Note to Parents
  1. Your Den Leader will track the Den Activities for each of the five categories
  2. You should use the Scout Handbook to especially track each of the Family Activities.  There are places to "Sign Off" on each activity in the handbook.
  3. So, use your handbook to track each of the family activities (among others) your scout completes.
  4. Start a Scout Folder to store papers and projects as your scout completes them.
  5. Bring the Handbook (and folder) to a Den meeting to have your family activities recorded by the Den Leader.
Tiger Den Meetings and Pack Meetings:
Pack 777 Tiger Den meetings will likely be held held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month (September - May) at West Valley Christian Church.  Once you are a member, you can look on the Tiger calendar on ScoutBook.com for this information and on all Tiger Den specific meetings as well as the monthly Pack 777 meetings.
Pack Meetings are typically the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30-7:30 pm and are held in the Connecting Place of the West Valley Christian Church.
If your Tiger missed a den meeting, check with your Den Leader to see what you missed and should complete at home.  There will likely be a message initiated through Scoutbook to inform you what was covered at the meeting.
